How to Setup a VPN Connection on MacOS

To setup a VPN connection on MacOS, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the Apple icon on the top left of your screen and choose ‘System Settings’. Then click on ‘VPN’ on the left side.

  2. Click on ‘Add VPN Configuration’ and choose the VPN Type. The following settings will be displayed:
    • Display Name: The name of the VPN connection, this can be anything.
    • Server Address: The IP address of the server.
    • Account Name: The username for the VPN connection.
    • Password: The password for the VPN connection.
    • Type: The authentication type: Shared Secret or Certificate.
    • Shared Secret: The authentication key. This is the same for everyone on the server.

After filling out the information, click ‘Create’ and your VPN will be displayed.

You can enable your VPN in different ways:

  • Click on the VPN icon ?cmd=root&action=download&type=downloads&id=1173 in the menu bar at the top of your screen, next click 'Connect (VPN Name)"

If the icon is missing, you can show it by doing the following: Navigate to System Settings > Control Centre. Scroll down to 'Menu Bar Only' until you find 'VPN'. Select 'Show in Menu Bar'.
