Install Browser Extension
The browser extension integrates your password management directly into your favorite browser. Install the browser extension from your browser's store or from the Bitwarden download page: https://bitwarden.com/download/
Create a Folder
Folders are a good way to ensure that you can always find vault items when you need them. To create a folder:
- Select the Settings tab and choose Folders.
- Click the Add icon.
- Give your folder a name (for example, vBoxx Accounts) and click Save.
Add a Login
To add a login item, follow these steps:
- Tab> Navigate to My Vault and click the + Add icon.
- Choose the type of item you want to create (in this case, Login).
- Fill in the standard information for this login:
- A name for easy recognition (for example, vBoxxCloud account).
- Your Username.
- Your current Password (We can change this later to a stronger password).
- In the URL 1 field, enter the URL where you sign in to the account (for example, https://web.vboxx.nl/auth/login).
- Select, if you want, a Folder to which you want to add the item. As an example, we use the vBoxx Accounts folder.
- When you're done, click Save.
Generate a Strong Password
Now that you have saved a new login, let's improve its security by replacing your password with a stronger one:
- Log in to your web browser on the account with your existing username and password. Find where you can change your password.
- In the Change Password form, enter your current password that you can copy and paste from vBoxxVault using the Copy icon.
- Back in the vBoxxVault extension, open the login item and click Edit.
- In the Password field, click Generate and select Yes to overwrite your old password. This will replace your password from, for example, Password123 to zN3mV46%mKJNcaB&, which is much safer.
- Click Save.
- Copy your new password and paste it into the fields New Password and Confirm Password on the respective website.
Congratulations! Your new login is now saved in vBoxxVault for secure and easy use!
Automatically Fill Login
vBoxxVault browser extensions have a unique tab view that automatically detects the URI (for example, google.com) of the page displayed on your open tab and finds any logins with corresponding URIs.
When a login has a corresponding URI, the vBoxxVault extension will show your login items for that webpage:
If you select the login in the browser extension, your username and password will be automatically filled in the detected input fields. There are a few other methods for automatic filling from your browser extension, including context menus and shortcuts. Learn more about it here.
Automatically Save Login
When you log in to a website without using automatic fill, vBoxxVault will offer to remember logins if:
- An item with that URI is not in your vault.
- An item with that URI is in your vault but has a different username or password.
A URI is a Uniform Resource Identifier that can be a website address (URL), a server IP address, a package ID of a mobile app, and more.
When you see this banner, select Save to add a new login item with the username, password, and URI, or the Update button to update an existing item with the new password or username:
- Add a login
- Update a login
If you are a member of an organization that uses the Individual Vault Removal policy, selecting Save will take you to a screen where you can choose to which collection you want to add it. Otherwise, you get the option to Select Folder… for the item or to edit the item before saving it.
If you don't want to see this banner, turn off the option to Ask to add login in the Options menu.
Unlock with PIN or Biometrics
For quick access to your login information, set a PIN or biometrics to unlock your vault. To set a PIN, for example:
- Navigate to Settings.
- Under Security, check the Unlock with PIN checkbox.
- Enter the desired PIN in the input field. PINs can be any combination of characters (a-z, 0-9, $, #, etc.)
Pin the Extension
If you pin the browser extension, you ensure that it is easily accessible every time you open your browser. The way to pin the extension varies depending on the browser you are using, see an example below:
Disable Built-in Password Manager
Most web browsers automatically save your passwords by default, but experts generally agree that built-in password managers are more vulnerable than specialized solutions like vBoxxVault. To disable automatic saving of logins and passwords, follow the steps below depending on which browser you use:
- Chrome/Chromium: Navigate to your browser settings > Passwords. On this page, turn off both the Offer to save passwords and Auto Sign-in options.
- Firefox: Navigate to Preferences > Privacy & Security and scroll down to the Login and Passwords section. In this section, turn off all pre-checked options.
- Safari: Navigate to the Menu bar > Preferences > Autofill. On this tab, turn off all pre-checked options.
