How to exclude the Sync Tool from Norton Antivirus

Problem

In some instances, you might notice a disruption to the desktop client sync process when Norton Antivirus is installed on that device. The antivirus might block certain parts of the Sync Tool.

Solution

In order to prevent sync issues, you need to exclude or accept-list a couple folder paths and processes in the Antivirus. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Norton Antivirus software and select Settings.
    • NOTE: If your screen prompts “My Norton”, click Open next to Device Security and from there click Settings.

    ?cmd=root&action=download&type=downloads&id=1113

  2. Select Antivirus.

    ?cmd=root&action=download&type=downloads&id=1114

  3. Select the Scans and Risks tab.
  4. Scroll down to the Exclusions/Low Risks section and select Configure [+] next to Items to exclude from scans.

    ?cmd=root&action=download&type=downloads&id=1115

  5. Click on Add Folders or Add Files to choose the locations.

    ?cmd=root&action=download&type=downloads&id=1116

You can either enter the exact path, or click on the Folder icon to browse the location. Click on the arrow next to a folder to expand it.

?cmd=root&action=download&type=downloads&id=1119

Add the following items:

Paths

C:\Program Files (x86)\vBoxxCloud (or branded name)
C:\Program Files (x86)\vBoxxCloud VFS (or branded name VFS)

Processes

C:\Program Files (x86)\vBoxxCloud (or branded name)\bin\agent_gui.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\vBoxxCloud (or branded name)\bin\agent_service.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\vBoxxCloud VFS (or branded name VFS)\bin\agent_gui.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\vBoxxCloud VFS (or branded name VFS)\bin\agent_service_VFS.exe

Depending if you have the Sync Tool full client or the virtual client (VFS), it should look like this:

Click Apply to save the changes.

?cmd=root&action=download&type=downloads&id=1120

For Mac systems:

The following Mac folder paths and processes need to be accept-listed (or excluded from scanning) to ensure proper functionality of the sync tool agent:

Paths
/private/etc/anchor/Applications
Processes
agent_servicevBoxxCloud.app (or branded name)
