Synchronized Devices

vBoxxConnect - Synchronized Devices

In the Synchronized Devices section, a user can view the synchronization connections configured for their user account. vBoxxConnect displays the type of connection being made (typically the protocol used) and, in most cases, the device/client and the protocol, except for IMAP or POP connections, as these are not listed. For example, "Outlook (MAPI)" or "WindowsMail (EAS)." vBoxxConnect Enterprise utilizes multiple data synchronization technologies to synchronize user data with email clients and mobile devices, including:

  • MAPI is an optional add-on that synchronizes vBoxxConnect mailboxes with Microsoft Outlook for Windows, providing Outlook users with the same features and capabilities available within Outlook when using Microsoft Exchange.
  • EAS is an optional add-on that is the standard for synchronization with most smartphones and tablets.
  • EWS is an optional add-on that seamlessly synchronizes vBoxxConnect messages, contacts, calendars, and tasks with third-party email clients supporting the protocol, including Microsoft Outlook for Mac, Apple Mail, the Outlook client for iPad, and eM Client.
  • CalDAV is an extension of the WebDAV protocol that synchronizes vBoxxConnect calendars with Macs, iPads, iPhones, and other devices/applications using this technology.
  • CardDAV is an extension of the WebDAV protocol that synchronizes vBoxxConnect contacts with Macs, iPads, iPhones, Thunderbird, and other devices/applications using this technology.

Removing a Connection

Generally, users should not remove synchronization connections, as doing so may cause the device or application to no longer function with vBoxxConnect. Removing a connection is only recommended if you no longer use that specific device or if you are experiencing issues and want to fully resynchronize the device's connection with vBoxxConnect. When reconfiguring the connection of a device, follow these steps:

  1. Remove your vBoxxConnect account from the device.
  2. Remove the connection from the Synchronized Devices section.
  3. Then, add the account configuration back to the device.

Resync All Devices

There may be cases where a user with multiple different clients set up wants to manually force all those clients to resynchronize. This is typically done at the request of the domain administrator but can be performed at any time if at least one device is listed. Forcing a resynchronization of one or more clients can help resolve issues, such as emails appearing in one client and not in another.

That being said, resynchronizing all clients can take some time, especially for particularly busy/active users. Therefore, this should only be done outside of office hours, if possible.

When the user clicks the Resync All Devices button, they are presented with a confirmation window warning them of the time it may take to complete the action. Once confirmed, a notification appears to inform them that the process has started. Subsequently, notifications are used to inform the user when the process is completed and if there are any issues. The resynchronization of clients is logged, so if an issue arises, the user should contact their domain administrator, who can further assist in resolving the problem.
